Melbourne Cup gives cause for paws

Racegoers can help cover the cost of training seeing-eye dogs such as 13-week-old Alfie (pictured) at this year’s Melbourne Cup carnival. Volunteers from Vision Australia’s Seeing Eye Dogs will sell lapel pins throughout the event, with money going towards the $30,000 cost of training each guide dog. Alfie is the 10th seeing eye dog raised by South Melbourne resident Susan Rafferty, whose work helps the 25 Australians who lose their sight each day.
